Newburgh Using Technology to Pinpoint Gunshots
The City of Newburgh is using high tech to determine where a gunshot came from, even if it’s not reported by a person.
Newburgh is using a system by Shotspotter, which is able to detect gunfire after it’s sensors have been set up in an area. The technology can cover up to a three square miles, so this is very effective coverage in high crime neighborhoods. Shotspotter sensors pick up the sound of gunfire and then relay information about location to the police.

The system went live on Thursday and it is able to pinpoint gunshots to the exact location and do it quickly, so police can be on the scene as fast as possible.
Newburgh now has another tool to help the police respond to gunfire fast enough that they have a better chance of catching a shooter. I have no information if there are other towns in the Mid Hudson Valley that also are using Shotspotter.
