Delay for Second Dock at Quiet Cove Park
One of Dutchess County’s nicest riverfront parks is waiting for the money to build a second dock that will allow easier access to the Hudson.
Quiet Cove Park in Poughkeepsie has had plans to build a second dock, which would include a deck that you can hang out on and enjoy the river. There is already one observation deck at Quiet Cove and it’s a popular place to picnic and take in some sun.
The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that Senator Chuck Schumer is trying to speed up the process, but construction of the second dock has been held up, even though the money is ready to be spent.
Dutchess County has had funding for expanding the park, about $1 million, earmarked since 2014, and has spent about half of that so far. But the project is stuck in limbo, awaiting approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Even if the dock work gets the go ahead, it wouldn’t be finished in time for this summer. The project would probably take about six months to complete. If you have never been to Quiet Cove Park, it’s in between Marist College and the Culinary Institute with an entrance right off Route 9. The “cove” is fast becoming a favorite picnic spot in the Mid Hudson Valley and a popular place to take wedding photos.
