I was on vacation last week and I went for a short hike with my daughters to see one of the nicest waterfalls in New York State. Awosting Falls is a very easy hike at Minnewaska State Park.

I realized that I had never taken my daughters to Awosting Falls. We have hiked around Lake Minnewaska, but Awosting is a short walk from the parking lot and since it was a hot day, I thought this would be a good one. The waterfall is about 60 feet high and it was not running very heavy during our visit. Still a beautiful spot and it's considered one of the nicest falls in all of New York State.

According to the website SeeSwim, the pool of water at the bottom of the falls is for looking and not swimming. I knew this, but many people don't pay attention to the posted signs.

Swimming is prohibited in the falls, and enforced. We did see people swimming there mid week in May, but this is against park policy.

You really can't go wrong with a hike at Minnewaska State Park. There are so many interesting spots to commune with nature. If you go on the weekend, you may find it hard to commune because the place gets packed. Try going during a Tuesday or Wednesday and you will have lots of quiet time to hike or even bike.
